Scrubs

Well, guys, I’m glad we’re getting to see these last two episodes, even if that might be ALL we get, until … forever.  Sigh.  I have really enjoyed this incarnation of Scrubs and I’m going to be so bummed to see it go.  And whatever Eliza Coupe is in next, I’m totally there.  Unless it’s fucking Grey’s Anatomy, but I really think she’s WAY too cool for that.

Anyway, I didn’t loooooooove this episode, but it was alright.  It was a little Lucy-heavy for me (which is to say, she was in it), but I did like the Cole and Kelso interactions, as I always do.  Really, I just wanted more Drew and Denise, and especially more Denise being her bitchy, insensitive, antagonistic self.

Oh, weird.  That’s all I have to say right now.  I think it’s because I just got distracted by thinking about Conan’s tour that I’m not going to fucking get to see, mother FUCK.  But that is here nor there.  I’m still excited for next week’s episode, and I do wish they’d been showing this show on Wednesdays all along, but what can you do?

What did you guys think?  Did you like it?  Was it meh for you?  Did you have any favorite lines or moments?  Comments!  (Ah, comments.  If only they could be left with an auto-tune app.)

Alright, guys, so as far as I know, last night was the last new Scrubs scheduled to air, although they do have two more in the can that could potentially air, or so I hear (via Twitter, of course–the source of all good information).  So even though it’s not officially cancelled, I think it’s probably safe to be bummed at this point.

As always, the show is TOTALLY worth watching for Denise, even when she has a sore throat.  In fact, did anyone else think that made her even hotter?  Because I did.  Between her total awkwardness with Drew, that weird pie in the shower scene, and calling Turk a tiny girl bitch, I will love her forever.  She just constantly steals the show.

And Drew was great too.  I’ve decided that I love his interactions with Dr. Cox, and I’m really glad they’ve given Dr. Cox someone to work with and mentor that has an entirely different dynamic than him and JD, because it brings a freshness and a different dimension both to the show and to Dr. Cox.  (And is further proof that they should’ve made Lucy something besides a whiny female JD.)  With JD, I think Dr. Cox really did think he was a good doctor, but also was always genuinely annoyed with him.  That relationship relied heavily on those two being polar opposites, and so it’s nice to see Dr. Cox with someone who he also think is a talented doctor (or future doctor, I suppose), but that he can relate to and who he sees himself in.  And it works too because Dr. Cox’s lessons to JD were a lot of times about toughening him up, whereas with Drew, his hell week lesson was about opening him up to the qualities he possesses and getting him to accept himself the way he is.  It’s just a nice, different take.

Man, you guys, the prospect of Scrubs getting cancelled really bums me out because I’m just going to go ahead and say it–since this season finally hit its stride, I think it’s the funniest that Scrubs has been in years.  I seriously LOVE Drew and Denise–they’re like my favorite thing ever.  I mean, who else’s sweet moments consist of the guy kissing the girl on the cheek and the girl calling the guy queer?  No one’s, that’s who!

Plus, I will say again, those two remind me in a scary way of me and Billy.  When she tossed him the strawberry icing for breakfast and he wanted a spoon, and she said, “Use your finger, Queen Elizabeth,” I about died, because I have TOTALLY been called Queen Elizabeth by Billy.  I was giving him hell about using his phone to internet while on the toilet, and he was like, “Whatever, I see your sudoku book on the back of the toilet, so don’t start, Queen Elizabeth!”  Amazing.

I did love the “Love ya!” that just kind of slipped out really naturally, and how weird they both got about it.  And I liked how she gave him the opportunity to take it back, and he did, but then he took back the taking back and she slammed the door in his smiling face.  I don’t know, it was just all kind of cute and funny and weird, and I enjoyed it.

Alright, I am just going to put this out there into the universe and see if it sticks anywhere.  I really would like for Scrubs to not get cancelled.  I’m enjoying it, and I think it keeps getting better all the time, and it’s funny … and if all that isn’t enough, it’s also the only thing I watch on Tuesdays, so …

And besides, Denise is rapidly becoming one of my favorite female characters on TV.  She’s so hilarious, and I might also add that following the actress on Twitter  is like Denise has actually come to life.  She cracks me up.  And I love how Denise and Drew are SORT OF the new Dr. Cox and Jordan, except hopefully no one EVER needs to have the kind of Botox intervention that really needs to happen with Jordan.  GOD.  Can we get someone to tell her how not cute that is?  Her face is as puffy as a goddamn corpse that’s been bobbing up to the bank of a river for the past ten days.  It is gross.

What was I saying?  Oh right, Denise and Drew are awesome.  That’s all, really, except I like the now recurring joke that Denise keeps revealing embarassing information about Drew in front of Elliott, who he barely knows.  And can I also just say what a great pairing those two (Denise and Elliott) are?

Hey guys, I’m still feeling a little craptastic today (although I think I WILL be returning to work tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll be a better commenter then), so if I’m not on my usual game, forgive me, and don’t take it as a lack of enthusiasm for last night’s two Scrubs episodes, which I really, thoroughly enjoyed.

Which makes me even more bummed that it’s not looking good for Scrubs.  Plus, I saw a couple of TV critics on Twitter (namely, Sepinwall) comment on how much better the show is now that JD is gone.  It really is.  I would say that I enjoyed Scrubs last night as much as I enjoyed anything last season–having Elliot around sometimes is much preferable to JD, and Drew and Denise KILL ME.  Kill.  They’re so funny.  Plus, I love everything about Drew as a character, and the insight into his past as a med student was enlightening and differentiated him nicely from previous characters.

Also, I loved the internet coming back to bite everyone in the ass, especially when Drew forgave the internet, because it’s just so something that you could really see happening in life.  The internet … not only does it love bitching, it also loves ass-biting.

Alright, guys, without getting too much into the specifics of each episode, I just wanted to drop a quick post, mostly so we can chat, since I know there are still a lot of Scrubs lovers hanging in with it.  And dude, I am totally bummed they’re going to burn off episodes.  I’m actually liking it a lot now.

I thought that the most recent episode was probably the strongest of the Med School eps, and is probably where they should’ve started the season.  I didn’t miss JD at all, and his send off in the original series, with the movie playing on the wall, was such a better ending for him than the previous episode.  I might have to make him Dead To Me in the first few eps of the season, because it really added nothing, detracted considerably, and cheapened his exit.

Meanwhile, seeing Turk interviewing new guy friends and settling on Denise was great (especially with their foreign celebrity game–totally my kind of activity), and Elliott was done perfectly, with Lucy spotting her, admiring her, and her giving some advice while being a good JD bridge for Turk.  Plus, I don’t think you’d notice if she wasn’t around all the time.

Alright, you guys–I’ve gotta say, I laughed a lot at Scrubs last night.  Probably as much as I would at a regular (pre-med school) episode.  I think that this was probably the week that, had I been on the fence (I really wasn’t), I probably would’ve made up my mind about the show.  I hope other people are deciding to stick with it, because I like having people to watch with. :)

Anyway, maybe I’m alone in this but I find that if shows can get off to strong starts, I pretty much enjoy them the whole way through.  It’s like having a strong opening act at a comedy show–it gets you warmed up and ready to laugh.  This episode got off to a really good start for me with the interns fighting over the doughnut (“You think licking will stop me?  I’ve eaten out of a dumpster!”), continued solidly pretty much throughout, and got several things right, such as …

Hey everybody!  Just to let you guys know, I have another busy day of work ahead of me, so I’m going to write this post, respond to some comments, and get back to it.  So if I’m kind of quiet today, I don’t want anyone thinking I’m dead!  I’ll try to check back in when I can though, and in the meantime, let’s talk Scrubs, shall we?

I’ve gotta say … it’s growing on me.  And I mean that in the good way, because JD is also kind of growing on me, but like a fungus.  Seriously, I thought he used to be more fun but he’s was just such a whiner in this episode.  It was like, Luke Skywalker bad.  I know it’s only three more episodes, but still, I’m kind of counting down until he leaves.  How bad is that?  I cried at the Scrubs finale last year with the future home movies … ALRIGHT, I’m a cheeseball deluxe, but whatever–I hate when things are over.  That is why “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (the song, not the movie) is my jam.

But since we’re doing this and launching the new version and all that, I do think it’s time to ditch JD and maybe Turk, although I’m curious about him in a JD and Carla-less world.  I still like Dr. Cox, I guess mainly because I like insults, so he’s welcome to stay.  But seriously?  MORE NEWBIES.

So who watched Scrubs: The New Class last night?  Me and Billy watched both episodes and by the second it had grown on me, but at first it was just so weird, because it was so different and yet so familiar.  Also, I thought Zach Braff was just going to be visiting, but it really made it seem like he’s still a pretty major part of the show.

So, just to get the old cast members out of the way–Dr. Cox, Dr. Kelso, J.D. and Turk are all around, as well as The Todd (to a lesser extent) and I also saw Snoop Doctor.  I’m going to need Doug to come back too, Show.  Denise is around as an RA (I think), and that’s good because I love her and she NEEDED to be around.  Elliot and J.D. are married and she’s pregnant (probably because she is in real life, and btw, she’s a very cute pregnant lady), but otherwise not around much.  The Janitor disappeared without a trace once J.D. left, no mention of Carla (at least that I caught), or of Ted.  Come on!  The new place needs a lawyer!  Oh, and speaking of, the hospital is gone and there’s a whole new facility on the med school campus.
