Hello, longtime friends and followers of OCTV! (I can’t type “longtime” without also saying, “Me love you long time,” which I totally do, and I can’t move on until it is said. Whew. OCD is hard.)
You may have noticed that posting has slowed down a bit here, but I wanted to let you know that we’ve been having behind-the-scenes discussions about the future of the site and where we want to go to it, and there will be big changes soon that should increase both the number of posts and the quality/fun factor of those posts. What changes are these, you ask?
Well, first of all, for the most part, the weekly recaps are going away. If any of the bloggers want to continue them, they most certainly can, but they may want to change up the timeframes that they publish them. What we have all collectively decided as a group are the following things:
- There are a zillion weekly recap sites out there, and sometimes doing it, even in our fun and hilarious, profananity-laced way, can feel a little like white noise.
- Sometimes, there just isn’t that much to say about a show week in and week out.
- Almost no one watches TV live anymore, and we want to make TV (and internet) experiences that are more in tune (heh) with how people actually watch TV now.
- Writing the weekly recap basically leans to burnout and exhaustion, which means we have less energy to put into it. This is the most important thing that we have to change.
So, after discussing all of this, we have decided that we are going to take a more free-form approach to our TV recappage and discussions. Rather than doing weekly recaps, we might just talk about an episode that really stuck with us, or we might discuss episodes in chunks after catching up on the DVR. We might catch up on a whole season or series of something on Netflix, and then talk about that. Maybe we’ll compare two different shows, or just talk about one part of a show, or just do one post about why you’re missing the most awesome show ever. We’ll have more time to collect pics and gifs and to think about what we’re writing, and it’s going to translate to an all-around better environment for us, as the bloggers, and for you, as the readers, so we’re very, very excited about it and can’t wait for our community here to reap the benefits.
Now, several shows will finish their recaps through the end of the season, just so you know what to expect. I’ve already made an epic new drinking game to premiere before summer shows, I’ll be working on a new header for the site, and other than that, we are open to suggestions (which can be made in the comments below!). Nicole and I are planning on our year-end wrap up that we usually do, and I think there is some stuff in the works for the Arrested Development events of the summer. So all in all, a lot of exciting stuff coming up!
