Drum roll please …
Well, you guys, I know you’ve been like DYING of anticipation over there ever since I announced that there would be an OCTV Christmas bash this year, and the moment has finally arrived where I tell you what it is that we’re doing. I think you’ll find it a delightful combo of things we love around here–snark, drinking games, Christmas, TV, and Supernatural. What could POSSIBLY bring all of these things together you say? Let me tell you.
We are going to be having a group video chat where we watch The Christmas Cottage, a Lifetime made-for-TV movie about Thomas FUCKING Kinkade, starring Jared Padalecki of either Supernatural OR Gilmore Girls fame, whichever you prefer, as the Painter of Light himself. And we are drinking every time they say the word light, which is apparently hilariously often. But if that doesn’t get us drunk enough, we’ll add “Christmas”. It’s guaranteed to be fucking terrible and I, for one, truly cannot wait. Jackassery is practically guaranteed to ensue.
For added hilarity, I will be getting smashed at my parents’ house and going to my sister-in-law’s baby shower the next day. I’ll have to try to be quiet so it’s not ideal, but we’ll make it work.
Okay, so here’s the deal. You may remember me taking a Twitter poll on when to do this and asking a bunch of questions about Netflix and so forth. I’ve decided to go with Saturday at midnight EST because that is one of the few times that The Christmas Cottage will actually be broadcast on Lifetime TV, and I’m trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone to join in. If you don’t have Lifetime or if your time zone doesn’t coincide, Netflix is an option and they also have the option of watching online. If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, maybe you can sign up for a trial? Or build a time machine to 1997 and rent it from Blockbuster or something? I don’t know, I’m sure there are ways to get hold of this. And if you’re Canadian, maybe tweet @TONicole, as she has already locked it down.
We’ll also be starting at 11:00 EST so we can hang out a bit, let people show up, and break the ice a bit. At this point, my goal is to use Tokbox, which I don’t think requires any downloading. I’m not sure yet if it requires participants to sign up for an account or not, or really even how it works, but these are all things I want to find out, so we’re going to do a minor test run sometime this week, TBA–Nicole and I need to figure out a time that’ll work for both of us. All I know so far is it won’t be tonight or tomorrow, but watch the Twitter for updates. (Yes, THE Twitter.)
Alright, guys–discuss in the comments. Who’s planning on joining, and how excited are you? Go!
