Well guys this week marked the end of the second season of The Glades. I for one am relieved because I really think the writers need time to re-evaluate this season and see how drastically it departed in feel from the first season. Besides that, I thought the show ended on a really strong note with an enjoyable season finale. Also we got treated to something we’ve been waiting for all season. You know what I’m talking about but we’ll get to that in a minute.
The season finale of The Glades saw Jim negotiating a hostage situation at Callie’s hospital after an inmate faked a seizure in order to escape. This whole situation was pretty stereotypical in nature in that Callie ended up a hostage after seeing a patient needing aid and thus Jim spent the rest of the episode trying to make sure that Callie came out of everything alive. It was solid storytelling but nothing mind blowing and memorable. Well unless you count Vince’s (inmate’s accomplice) obvious channeling of Tim Riggins’ style. Buddy, don’t you know only Taylor Kitsch can pull off the long, dirty hair and plaid shirt look? Good try but seriously, never again.
Ultimately, Jim gets the bad guys but that’s not really his biggest concern of the episode. Jim finds out that Callie’s hospital is set to close and that she was offered a job/chance to finish med school free of debt. Don’t fret though my little Glades fanatics, Callie was smart and decided to stay. In fact, as she told Jim, she didn’t want to run from something before even seeing if it can work. Basically she decided she wanted a piece of his man log. So after this whole season of “will they/won’t they/ how come their timing is fucked up”, our couple has a chance to finally give their relationship a shot without any interference. In other words, the Jim and Callie Express is full steam of ahead. I hope this means that next season we get LOTS of viewer-discretion advisories for nudity. Have a drink and celebrate y’all!
Overall, I felt this season was so psycho in nature and that it never really found its direction for the season. We had characters brought in and pulled out without any clear indication of what they provided to storylines or character development. Our main characters seemed to have identity crises throughout the season. Still despite my gripes, and I have many about this season, The Glades was able to finish strong leaving me hopeful that next season it’ll reclaim the awesomeness that it had during season one.
Well the time has come for me to end my last Glades post of the season. I don’t know if I’ll recap it next summer or not but know that I really did enjoy giving y’all my thoughts the season. Also I need to thank you all for letting me vent my frustration with the show and for putting up with my tardiness when it came to posts. Y’all have been great but now it’s time for you to fantasize about Jim and Callie’s romantic future. Or just Jim. Take your pick. As always please talk to me down in the comments section. I love to read what y’all thought of everything.
