Special guest judge of the night is Carmen Electra. You should have seen the look on my wife’s face when I told her Carmen was an actual dancer. Not as special guest judge is Travis Wall. I feel like he is being Adam Shankman Jr. I was thinking that and the wife confirmed it when she said the same thing to me later on in the show.
Kicking the routines off, we start out with a boys-only routine. It was weird. They said it was going to be very manly. Um, nope. Not a fan.
Marco and Melanie – They are doing some jazz to Lady Gaga. It started a little slow, but as usual, they killed it. Probably my favorite part of the routine was the fact that Melanie’s hair is growing out and isn’t shellacked to her head today. Great start to the night.
Alexander and Sasha – Rockin’ a hiphop routine by some new guy, Shaun Evaristo. I really like his stuff and it is a nice change from the Nappy Tabs and Dave/Christopher Scott hiphop we generally see. They have the best chemistry on the show, Marco and Melanie notwithstanding. The judges pretty much all panned it though. Shows what I know.
[Sorry, no video!]
Tadd and Jordan – The wife seems to be confused that Tadd is a dancer from Utah. She seems unconvinced when I tell her they actually do allow dancing there. They do not allow alcohol. And poligamy? AOK by their books. Anyway, they are doing a waltz. This is one of those they did well but it was just so goddamn boring. Tadd did better than Jordan overall. You wouldn’t really know he was a b-boy.
Jess and Clarice – I know I sound like a broken record, but it is just so unfortunate that Jess and Clarice got stuck together. They are doing a contemporary routine. According to my wife, this choreographer is the male equivalent of Sonya Tayeh. Easily the best performance out of these two so far this season.
Chris and Ashley – They are doing the salsa. Speaking of salsa, I’m starving. I’ll tell you what I’m not though – hungry for more of this routine. They could be in trouble.
[Thank god there isn’t video of this train wreck.]
Ricky and Ryan – So they are doing some weird jazz routine. I feel like the judges told them to go make up their own dance backstage and come out and perform it. It was not good at all. I would be happy if we didn’t see this choreographer again. Any one want to make a guess how the judges felt about it? Yeah, they loved it. Once again, I’m a dummy.
Mitchell and Caitlynn – Wow. That was one hell of a contemporary number. They got a standing O from the judges, Mary cried and called it best of the night, and Carmen rambled incoherently. I absolutely agree, that was amazing. Plus I’m a real sucker for Celine Dion. Please don’t tell anyone I said that.
[Really sorry, no video!]
They wrap up the show with an all girl number. It is something about a funeral. None of the funerals I’ve been too were like this. I’d wish more people dead if they were.
Consulting the crystal ball says this week it is going to be Alexander & Sasha, Tadd & Jordan, and Chris & Ashley. I wish Ricky and Ryan were in the bottom three but I don’t think that’s going to happen this week. Why do I get the feeling they are going to straggle along into the Top 10? Why do I get the feeling I am going to throw things at the TV when that happens?
So what did you think about this week’s performances? Is Travis a Mini-Shankman? Who are your bottom three? How do you feel about Celine Dion? If you like her, can we be friends? Comments, my friends.
