The Voice. Battle Round 2.

Guys, I’ve got to tell you.  I’m loving these battle rounds.  I could probably watch an entire season of people singing duets and getting voted off.  There’s probably a show like that on MTV 10, but they don’t have Sia.  This is the second night for battle rounds so let’s get right to it.

CEE LO:  Monica is turning out to be a pretty awesome sidekick.  She has great advice and we get to hear her sing a bit.

Nakia VS Tye: Nakia is the guy who had the balls to sing “FUCK YOU” or, you know, the PG version “Forget You,” in the blind auditions.  TyeTye is the super skinny dude with a monster fro.  Nakia gets off to a rough start when he makes suggestions that Cee Lo wasn’t feeling.  Tye takes the safe route and keeps his damn mouth shut.  We’ll see which one comes out on top.

The Battle: Adam had a bit of a green eyed complex while listening to Tye’s opening notes.  Tye sounds very Ne-Yo like, very melodic.  Nakia’s growliness is such a jarring difference to Tye’s smooth flow.  I’m not sure it was really the song for Nakia, though he has a different tone and they usually pick uniqueness over a good voice.

Moving On: Nakia.  Didn’t I tell you they love different?  Monica talked about the fact they were looking for The Voice, that one person.  Tye is just too generic-good, but generic.

BLAKE: Reba is still a bad ass.  Loved her comments, suggestions, and advice to Blake.

Jared VS Elenowen:  Since when is “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” a Marvin Gaye song?  He might have done it first but Diana Ross made it a lasting hit.  Anyway, I loved Elenowen (see last week’s post for my feelings on harmonies) in the blind audition, and Jared is one of the second round picks.  Doesn’t look good for the seasoned performer, but anything can happen.  Their rehearsal was a disaster and Blake called them out for it.  This battle could be a hot mess.

The Battle: Jared is selling it like he was born to do Marvin/Diana songs.  He is playing to the audience and really enjoying himself. Elenowen just keeps singing to each other.  This is about performing and selling the song.  I’m not buying what Elenowen is offering.  The girl half didn’t even really sing by herself and when she did it wasn’t very good.  She mainly just harmonized.

Moving On:  Jared.  I wouldn’t have called this one before the performance, but he really did work it out.  Better luck next time, Elenowen.  I hope you get to move out of your parents’ basement soon.

ADAM: Adam 2 is fine, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Reba, Monica, and my new favorite person, Sia.

Javier VS Angela:  Poor Angela, she knew right away she was going down.  I love that she decided to have fun with it and just enjoy the experience instead of being bitter.  I would have been pissed if I were in her shoes.  Adam tells Javier to make the song more simple and Javier struggles to rein it in.

The Battle:  Javier is just amazing.  Angela did a better job than I thought she would.  She was having a fantastic time with a huge smile on her face.  They had great harmonies and it was beautiful.  Loving the tweets at the bottom of the screen.  Adam was really sweet and told Angela she has an infectious smile.  All together now, “Awwww!”

Moving On: Javier.  Everyone knew it.  Angela tried her hardest and did a great job of co-existing as Cee Lo put it.  Javier is going to be hard to beat.

CHRISTINA:  OMG!  Yes, Sia is bringing out the valley girl in me.  I freaking love this woman.  Did you see her staring at Jared while furiously scribbling notes?  She had this amazingly huge smile and crazy eyes.  I had to rewind it twice.  Then later she did the giant fist pump to Adam while Javier was singing.  Brilliant!

Justin VS Beverly:  Is there anyone out there with more of a disconnect from their name?  Beverly is just not a rocker name.  Beverly has a mini orgasm after hearing they would get to sing The Who.  I don’t even watch CSI and all I can think about when I hear a Who song is CSI.  How sad is that?  Thanks, CSI, for ruining The Who for me.  I thought Beverly was a bit over the top in practice.  Justin was struggling, but hopefully he’ll surprise us.

The Battle:  Justin starts out great.  The producers certainly picked the best for last.  These two killed it.  He sang the shit out of his verses.  I didn’t really like that high note Bev went to in her verse.  I also felt like she was screaming at me.  Loved the slow part with killer harmonies.  Justin, who looks like a banker to Blake, found his inner rocker.

Moving On:  Beverly.  This was a tough one.  Christina is obviously looking for the powerhouse girls.  Don’t feel bad Justin, you were awesome, too.

The night goes to:  TEAM CHRISTINA!  Great song, great harmonies, great performance, just great!

Carson’s still there.  Nothing fun or interesting to report. Come on, Daly, grab a boob or something.  Maybe when we get to live shows he’ll be interesting … maybe?

Anyone else now on Team Sia?  Who was your favorite?  Who’s sunglasses were you coveting?  Cee Lo’s red or Nakia’s white?  Which would you wear indoors?  COMMENTS are AWESOME!

Forgot to mention Angela’s headband. I hate those things!

I hate those kind of headbands too. I absolutely adore Sia. I think she’s so charming and cute!

But so is Adam…oh Adam, you are such a cute smartass.

I don’t like Beverly. I hate that high note crap that she just loves to do. Falsetto in the middle of a verse? Why????

I still love this show. I wish it came on 2 days a week like Idol but at the same time, I’m kind of enjoying the ability to savor it. I don’t like it’s new timeslot, though. 10 pm is awfully late for reality shows.

I am surprisingly loving this show and somewhat embarrassingly might have downloaded some of the songs this morning. I actually thought Justin was better than Beverly but pretty much agreed with every other battle. Javier is amazing.

Randi, totally with you on Adam. I he is getting the biggest image boost from the show. I’ve always been led to believe he’s an ass with a huge ego. While those things might be true, he’s showing a different, completely swoon worthy, side on the show.

I’m happy that we don’t have to two times a week. It leaves me wanting more and Idol hasn’t done that in years.

MaryEm don’t feel embarrassed! I may have done the same ;)
