Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback. Songs Glee should do.

Alright, you guys, so there I was, driving down the road, when John Mellencamp’s Hurt So Good came on the radio and I thought, you know, this would be a really great song for the Glee kids to do.  And wouldn’t Puck be perfect for Authority Song?  Shit, even Finn could do a good rendition of Ain’t Even Done With the Night, and Jack and Diane is a forever classic!  When you think about it, ALL of John Mellencamp’s songs are basically perfect for Glee.  As a person who grew up in Indiana, John Mellencamp is life.  He is a Hoosier icon and his songs are so perfectly and timelessly middle America.  And while I kind of hate Ohio for being huge and boring and terrible to drive through, it is essentially exactly the same as Indiana.  And so … these bitches need to get their Little Pink Houses on, stat.

That is, assuming, that John Mellencamp isn’t with the rest of us in thinking that Ryan Murphy is a fucking bitch and wanting to really stick it to him by telling him to go fuck himself.  It’s okay if you feel that way, John.  No one would blame you.

Anyway, this whole John Cougar Mellencamp (he’ll always have the Cougar in my heart) internal monologue inspired this morning’s discussion question, which is of course, in your dream world, where Ryan Murphy ISN’T a fucking bitch and all song options are on the table, what do you think the Glee kids should sing?  It could be for thematic reasons or just because it’s fun, but really have a good time with this one.  Once I got on this Mellencamp roll, I had a really good conversation with myself about it, and it kept me occupied AT LEAST the entire way to work.  And that’s what we’re really trying to do here, just get through our Mondays.  Only don’t keep it in your head, share it in the comments.  Ready?  Go!

    I love Glee, somehow, despite some of the terrible directions they’ve taken the show this season, but I do think they’d honestly be better off if they dropped RM. He’s doing nothing to help their reputation and if he’s pissing off artists left, right and centre, soon they’ll have no CHOICE but to do only original songs!

    I’d love for Kurt to sing ‘I Am What I Am’ from La Cage Aux Folles.

    Rachel – ‘Bitch’, by Meredith Brooks, but that’s unlikely to ever happen.

    Santana – I’d love for her to take on ‘Respect’ by Aretha Franklin. Her voice is amazing and she’s so under-used!

    Brittany – ‘Sometimes’, by Britney Spears. IDK. She’d just be adorable. (It’d be even more awesome if she sang it to Santana.)

    I’m really pissed at you for doing this to me on a Monday morning btw. Just to be clear. Also, Kurt did sing ‘Pink Houses’ in the S1 episode where he ‘went straight’ and made out with Brittany… It was underwhelming, I can see why you forgot. LOL

    Something from my favorite band, Green Day. ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, ‘Minority’, ‘Basket Case’, ‘Good Riddance’, ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ is the kind of song that could rival last years performance of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Vocal Adrenaline… If done in it’s entirety and correctly.

    I can’t believe they haven’t done ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen yet. The entire Queen anthology should be tapped for that matter.

    Also, how about a little Aerosmith? You’d think Fox would be kissing Steven Tyler’s ass pretty serious right about now huh? ‘Crazy’, ‘Amazing’, ‘Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ — and my favorite ‘What it Takes’. GUH…

    I could go on & on, but that’ll do for now. My bitterness is seeping in. lol

    Here’s the thing while I still watch Glee every Tuesday- let’s face it there’s nothing fucking else on that night worth watching- the show is a load of crap now and I’d hate to ruin some of my favorite songs by having those bitches belt them out. Instead here’s two songs I hate w/ a passion but could still see the twats of Glee singing.

    If I Die Young by The Band Perry- Of course Rachel would probably get this solo (the bitch can’t share) but I could see Quinn singing it as well.

    Born This Way by Lady GaGa- Kurt duh.

    Stroke Me by Billy Squire. Did they maybe use it in a mash up at some point? Or Everybody Wants You. I would LOVE if they did more Hairband rock cause I liked that although I think everyone else hated that episode.

    And I would pee in my pants if they ever did a song by the Osmonds. Crazy Horses or One Bad Apple.

    How about a little Asia? Or will Heat of the Moment forever be an SPN song?

    I’d definitely love to see a little more older stuff. Some of the new pop songs they’re doing now are foreign to me.

    MORE 80′s. I second Heat of the Moment. What about The Final Countdown by Europe? Come Sail Away by Styx? Feels Like the First Time by Foreigner?

    God, they shot their load early with the Journey. Now I’ve been waiting around like a sucker for more 80s hair bands switched up and they’ve been stuck on new pop crap. Ugggghhh…

    Seriously? No one called Patty on One Bad Apple. I’m pretty sure that was the Jackson 5 before Michael was surgically enhanced. I would love to see the Glee kids (adults should NOT sing in a HS show choir) sing some Bob Seger “Rock and Roll Never Forgets.” I could also enjoy Sonny & Cher “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,” but I can’t decide if I would rather see Artie and Quinn do it or Tina and Mike.

    I like Eleanor’s idea of Meredith Brooks’ “Bitch”. I think it could be a trio event with Rachel (“bitch”), Santana (“lover”), and Quinn (“mother”)!

    Also, how about be bring it back to NKOTB? They haven’t done a boy band performance, have they? Bring on the NSync, 98 Degrees, NKOTB(SB)! Not that I was a fan or anything …

    And Spice Girls! Yes, can you tell I grew up in the 90s!?
