Well, you guys, next week is the season finale and this was kind of the perfect episode to lead up to it–funny, lighthearted, but also really reflective on both what happened and also what might’ve happened if things had gone differently, and overall I really liked it.
The episode had distinct vignettes, so that’s kind of how I’m going to go about covering it. I’m ridiculously excited for next week and as always, I’m totally unspoiled and want to keep it that way, so anything I say is purely conjecture and if you know anything, PLEASE don’t tell me, okay? Okay. Thank you.
Clearly, the Twilight bit was HILARIOUS. And even though I’m just about vampired out, I still got a little thrill out of Vampire Matty hangin’ fang. And while it was not so much arousing, I laughed a LOT at Jake (sometimes known as Jacob)’s abundant chest hair. I bet this episode was so fun for all of them. And they spent just the right amount of time on this–enough to be really, really funny but not so long that it got tedious.
Favorite quote of this part: “My brief foray into fiction led me to one obvious conclusion. I was a hack.” Something I can relate to perhaps a little too well.
My favorite little vignette was the Matty do-over. First of all, I am a sucker for bitchery, particularly of the teen girl persuasion, and I loved Mean Girls, so this was a no-brainer. This one actually had two favorite quotes: “They’re not D-listers … unless you grade on a curve the size of her shelf butt,” (the topic of shelf butt ALWAYS makes me laugh) and, “All the girls wanted to be me, and all the guys wanted to bone–except the gay ones, who still wanted to see my boobs.”
I also liked how this one had some (initial) grounding in reality, where Jenna demanded that Matty respect her and ask her on a date rather than fuck her in a broom closet, which was good. But then you also saw this really quick but logical sequence of events of how she turned into the biggest bitch in the universe. I loved her mom fawning all over her (because of COURSE she would), and I also really loved how Matty still wanted to end up with a nice girl that just liked him. It was sweet.
The Jake story was similarly good. We’ve seen that Jenna can have some clingy tendencies, and maybe if everything had been on the table and Jake didn’t always feel like he was working so hard for Jenna’s affection, he would’ve realized sooner that there’s really no chemistry there. (Oddly, I feel the Jake and Tamara chemistry–anyone else?) It was completely vindicating to hear Jake respond “Awesome,” to “I love you”, and Lissa was cracking me up (again). I didn’t think there were as many entertaining quotes here, but my favorite was “Sex Trance.”
OH! And I can’t forget to give DILF a shout out. Listen, I’d pee on whatever he told me to. Just sayin’.
Also? Why does DILF get all the pee storylines? Not that I’m complaining, of course.
There was a brief option of Jenna choosing herself, but that’s no fun (and again, in REAL LIFE, this is the option I would totally support–if you can’t decide, then it’s neither, but in TV LIFE, that’s no fun and also, did I mention, TEAM MATTY?). It looks like she’s about to decide, so we won’t have long to wait … unless they cliffhang us over the summer, which I will not be able to deal with.
Alright, you guys–what did you think? Favorite lines or moments that I missed? Who do you hope Jenna picks? Has anyone found the gif of Jake and Matty holding hands yet? Because oh, holy lord, the HoYay! Talk to me in the comments!
