SYTYCD Top 6. Christopher Scott: Point/Counterpoint.

I was “oot and aboot” in Canada last week so I missed out on the festivities and eliminations. Looks like Lindsay and Will went home. As for the remaining people, I honestly can’t believe Witney, Tiffany, and Chehon are still around. Although the quality of dancers this season has totally been suspect.

Guest judge for the night is Christina Applegate who is moving quickly from guest to regular. Also, Mary’s dress makes it look like her head is poking out of a vagina. Weird.

Just as a note, I’ll not be commenting on the solos, but I’ll post them in any case.

Opening group number:

First up is Tiffany with all star Benji doing a Jive. He still has super over-acting face but he certainly packed on the muscles. Looks like he has been using Barry Bond’s doctor and Cat Deeley’s tanning booth. Anyway, huge energy, Benji was great, but Tiffany just ok. She looked like she had to pause and remember the steps a couple of times.

Witney’s solo:

Cole is going to be dancing contemporary with all star Melanie. Cole was really good and this routine definitely reminded me of the Marco/Melanie masterpieces from last year. I felt a little weird about Melanie doing so much lifting. That foot-first backbend flip off of Cole’s back was absolutely amazing. I really liked that.

Chehon’s solo:

Eliana will be doing some hiphop with all star Twitch. That is the upside. The downside is that Christopher Scott is going to be choreographing a story which is always heavy handed. The music sucked, the actually hiphopping was really good, but the story and costumes looked like something out of a Tyce routine. Meh.

Tiffany’s solo:

Speaking of Tyce, Chehon is going to be doing a Tyce routine with all star Kathryn. AND Chehon will be emoting. This could be a wreck. Fortunately it was surprisingly good. Lots of feeling, great dancing, and I actually felt like it was for real. After all three judges spoke, Chehon was still on the edge of tears. Did not expect that out of the normally stoic Chehon.

Cole’s solo:

Witney is doing a contemporary dance with all star Marco. Not so sure about the shaved head on Marco. I hated the music, the dancing was just ok, and overall, I didn’t care for it much at all. I was ready for Witney to be gone ages ago. Of course, the judges love her.

Eliana’s solo:

Cyrus is doing dubstep with all star Comfort. It is a Christopher Scott routine again, so that could be the weak link in the routine. Fortunately Christopher left the story by the wayside and this routine killed it. Cyrus was outstanding and Comfort was great as always. They were in sync, there was some hard hitting, and the hand thing was awesome. I’m glad Cyrus is holding his own after some of the crappy dancing he did early on in the season.

Next up is the dancers pairing up with each other. First up is Chehon and Witney doing a Chacha. This is obviously in Witney’s wheelhouse, but I was totally surprised by Chehon being able to keep up with Witney. He was up on his toes a bit, but not terrible. Especially not as terrible as Mary made it out to be.

Cyrus’s solo:

Cole and Eliana are pulling a contemporary routine. It is a Mia Michaels one about hatred. She actually called me and asked how I felt about having a show completely about her. She then based this dance on the conversation. Kidding aside, Cole and Eliana’s tricks and tumbling were fantastic, especially the first 30 seconds of the routine. The silent screaming at the end was also great.

Wrapping things up is Cyrus and Tiffany doing a 50s Broadway theme. The synchronization wasn’t that great, but it was a fun routine. Not a whole lot else to say.

Usually, the special dancing guests are something regular. Ok, we get it, Alvin Ailey dancers are awesome. Kathryn has a new movie coming out. Great. Tonight’s was actually something I’ve never seen before: mixed wheelchair/non-wheelchair dancing. I really liked it.

So the first girl in the finale is Tiffany. I actually thought she might be going home. Fortunately, out of Eliana and Witney, Witney is going home. I think Eliana has this season in the bag.

First guy in the finale is Chehon, shockingly enough. I’m really pretty shocked. He looked far more shocked than I was. Cyrus is the other guy in the finale. While not shocking, I do wish it was Cole instead of Chehon.

So we are down to one last episode this season. I’m picking Eliana to win it all, no competition. Neither of the guys is good enough to pull it off. So let me know what you thought about this week’s results and any predictions for next week. Comments are below!

Tiffany again? Who is she? I only learned her name last week and wish I didn’t have to. I liked the swing enough but Benji is too gummy for my taste.

I loved Melanie last year but not so much this year. Is it because she pulls too much attention for whoever she is dancing with? I don’t notice Cole in this number.

I am kind of over all the praise for Eliana. I like her but man the judges over play her. I think everyone has room to grow, especially this season. The dancers are all very young and inexperienced and need some goals not “you can do anything given to you”.

I like Comfort way more as an allstar than I did in her season. I hope Cyrus does well next week and doesn’t just get more hip hope. I mean, he’s ok and a sweet guy but they are totally choreographing to his strengths. I am sure he has grown as a dancer over the season but I wish he would have been challenged more.

Who is Marco again? Was he Melanie’s partner last year? Was his hair so different that I totally don’t remember him at ALL? this number made me sad. I wanted to like it more. I might have been distracted by the fugly dress.

I loved the Chehon/Kathryn dance even though it was Douchy McDoucherton doing choreography.

Sorry, I am all out of order now.

Chehon and Witney. I love them both but this was a disaster. Poor Chehon. I wasn’t sure he almost dropped her but when they called him on it. Wow.

I don’t know what I was more annoyed by tonight – the Mia anger dance that I ended up loving or just Tyce talking at all.

I wasn’t shocked that Witney was cut but I really liked her even if America didn’t. I WAS shocked that Chehon made the cut but I guess America fell in love with him these past few weeks as I have. I don’t think he stands a chance of winning over Cyrus but I hope he does well next week. As for the girls, I guess I am pulling for Eliana. We’ll see.

I always called all star Lauren “Gummy Lauren.” Can you imagine she and Benji dancing together?

I agree that Melanie kind of steals the spotlight. The judges rambled on about her forever.

I almost mentioned the Comfort thing. She almost got tossed in her season because the judges thought she had a cold personality and needed an attitude adjustment. She turned out to be one of the best hiphoppers ever on the show (next to Twitch).

Yes, Marco was Melanie’s partner and yes, he chopped all his hair off. I hated it.

I watched it twice, but I couldn’t see the almost-drop by Chehon. He is one of those one-hit-wonders who is incredible doing his ballet leaps, but get him in most other styles and he is a wreck.
