Um, so things start off weird with my arch nemesis, Tyce, dancing in the opening group routine. Ugh! His stupid face was over-acting the entire routine. Barf! I’m just going to pretend like that didn’t happen. I am posting the video for this under duress. DURESS I TELL YOU!!!
So after that abomination, I’m happy to tell you that since we are in the top 10, All Stars will now be introduced into the mix. Super happy about this because there are so many great dancers that they bring back.
Guest judge this week is some Millipede guy. I don’t know who he is but it looks like he shaved just before going to his judge seat and already has a beard. I’ll be calling him Human Millipede for the duration of this recap.
Before we get to the routines, can I just ask why everyone feels the need to celebrate the 100th birthday of people who didn’t make it to 100? They are doing Gene Kelly’s 100th tonight and everyone was gushing over Julia Childs’ 100th last week. Gotta sell more books or songs or whatever, I guess.
Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but I think this is a Doriana Sanchez disco. It is definitely all star Brandon dancing with Tiffany. This routine kind of had it all. They danced really well on the dacing parts, the tricks were outstanding, and Tiffany really handled herself great. They definitely looked tired afterward, but not during, which is good.
Witney is dancing with a dude from the first season which I never watched. Apparently he won. This routine was supposed to be sexy, but two things ruined that for me: 1) the music was not good and felt too electronic or something and 2) I don’t find Witney sexy at all, especially with the gross makeup. Mary, Nigel and Human Millipede all loved it though. Shows what I know.
All star Anya is joining a slightly injured Cole (hence Tyce in the opener) for a Chacha. I liked the use of some ninja moves by Cole at the beginning. Anya is was good, obviously, but Cole was just meh. Maybe we can chalk it up to injury, but I doubt it. Cole looked like he was concentrating on the dancing too much. Anya’s outfit was, um, unfortunate. Yuck.
Lindsay will be dancing with all star Jakob. I kind of remember him, but just barely. I don’t care for the jazz routines much, but I kind of thought that was about the best we’ve seen from Lindsay this season. Really good synchronization when they were going blind with Jakob behind the curtain.
Will is going to be pulling off a Bollywood number with all star Kathryn. This should be great because I always love Kathryn’s Bollywood routines. Really good hands, face chemistry, and tricks from Will and Kathryn. Plus Will just cracks me up especially to see a dude that big do some of those moves. That is my favorite routine of the night so far.
Cyrus is going to be working with all star Jaimie who I really don’t remember either. I keep hoping Cyrus will turn the corner and get way better or just get voted off, but he just keeps hanging around. I thought this was one of his better routines. The best part of the routine was the end where Jaimie was hanging on Cyrus as he slo-mo walked. Overall, really good stuff and a step in the “getting way better” direction.
Chehon is doing a Dave Scott routine with all star Lauren. Hiphop is usually one of my favorites but I’m hating this R&B crap. I prefer my hiphop dirty. Also, Chehon felt like he was trying to be limp and smooth or whatever. Nigel pointed out that Chehon was finally popping his personality out there and I agree. But I didn’t care for much of anything in this routine.
George is going to be doing some jazz with all star Allison. Why am I having such a hard time remembering all these all stars. I watched season 2, but have no clue. Well, I hate Tyce, I hate George, and I really, REALLY hate George’s mustache, so I don’t have much good to say about this routine. I wonder if they are going to cut off George’s mustache during makeover week?
Eliana and all star Alex doing a Stacey Tookey routine? This should be good. Boy, was it ever. Beautiful dancing, loads of emotion, a good soundtrack, and a very haunting atmosphere. I liked this one the same amount as the Bollywood routine, but in a completely different way. Outstanding.
Aubrey is going to be doing a vampire hiphop routine with all star Twitch. First off, Twitch is one of the best emoters this should has ever known. His disinterest at the waltz interlude and his sheepishness at being locked out of the casket were awesome. Aubrey was good. That was the kind of hiphop I like to see and Aubrey pulled it off.
This weeks bottom two girls are Witney and Aubrey. The bottom two boys are Chehon and George. No surprises on any account and I would mostly be bummed if Chehon went home. The other three I don’t much care either way. The judges save Witney and Chehon. That is fine. Maybe next time George will shave his mustache so he connects with the audience better. I can’t hurt, can it?
So there you have it, the first round of cuts to the top 10. So what do you think? How were the all stars? Which all stars do you want to see more of this season? Let me know below. Also, thanks for being such good discussers!
