Suits. Are you having a stroke?

“You have a booger. Want me to get it?”

WHAT THE FUCK SUITS?! Guys, I’m so not happy right now with my 1b favorite show (Happy Endings is obvs 1a) after last night. I told y’all if they killed Grammy there would be no coming back from that for me, even though I knew it was coming from the beginning of the season. I guess my threats just don’t hold as much power as I thought they did. Sure they brought Donna back to lessen the blow of the worst offense they could do to me but guess what? IT DIDN’T WORK. Grammy was seriously my favorite character and that one little interaction between her and Harvey was not enough. I NEEDED more. Specifically, I needed drunk Grammy and  Harvey trading embarrassing Mike stories and then having secret inside jokes to hold over him. I will be grieving this loss for years I’m telling you. Not since Dr. Greene’s passing in the Hawaiian peacefulness have I been sad to watch the next episode because I know they won’t be in it. Well, at least they won’t be alive in the next episode. This includes a lot of character deaths from LOST.

Even though I’m EXTREMELY unhappy that they’ve killed off the future old me, I understand why they did it. Writers, this doesn’t mean I forgive or I’m okay with this move. In fact, I’ll never be okay with having no more Grammy. I will say I loved the parallel between Grammy’s death and Rachel breaking the news to Mike to Harvey and Donna’s moment last week. This will definitely be a bonding opportunity for Harvey and Mike though I think Mike might blame Harvey, the firm, and himself for not spending more time with our favorite old lady. I’m VERY curious to see how Mike handles this and what Harvey does. While Harvey dove into his work to help him cope, I imagine Mike will probably do the opposite. Or as the preview suggested – smoke weed. Whatever gets you through it I guess. Maybe he’ll become Oscar the Grouch and start living in a trash can and become one of those prophets that berate people on the streets. Or even better MAYBE he’ll join a mathletes league! Yes, let’s hope he joins a mathletes team.

Anyway, I mentioned Donna is back and it’s lovely. Oh, how I missed her and the facial conversations she and Harvey have. Basically, now that we don’t have Grammy anymore Donna is NEVER allowed to leave again. There’s really not much for me to say about Donna’s return except that I’m extremely happy she’s back to snark everyone and rule Pearson Hardman. Also, I’m going to need to know about this “other time” Harvey came over to her place. Writers consider it a gift for your best character on the show.

(Side note- I had a minor outpatient procedure yesterday and currently have five stitches right in the middle of my back so sitting up and typing is pretty fucking painful today. Who knew that back muscles were involved in typing? Anyway, this rest of this recap is going to be a list of reactions and observations. Also, thank god for pain meds.)

Thoughts/Observations:

  • So guys you know how much I’ve loved Louis this season? Well, I KNEW that love would pay off. Rick Hoffman has stolen the show this season. Seriously. He was PERFECT last night and I loved his little ‘waiting’ spiel to Harvey and Jessica at the end. I think it was fitting because it finally allowed Louis to have the upperhand and get out from being used by everyone. I honestly don’t care who he votes for. I just want Louis be appreciated yo.
  • Anyone else flashback to the Save By The Bell detention episode where Mr. Belding is obsessed with his Bonsai tree when they showed Hardman pruning his? I was seriously hoping for Louis to have his own Screech/Bonsai moment. Also yes, EVERYTHING reverts back to SBTB somehow. (By the way if you’re crazy and don’t remember this episode the SBTB Blog will refresh your memory for ALL the episodes: http://sbtb.blogspot.com/)
  • I WANT Grammy’s apartment.
  • Mike’s tie was extremely distracting for me this episode.
  • I bet half of Harvey’s record collection came from street vendors.
  • The Jessica/Hardman laying down their gauntlets was amazing. LOVED it.
  • Louis would have a special suit for a senior partner promotion AND Donna would know exactly what that means.
  • How did Donna know that second check contained a bigger bonus if she never looked at the first one?
  • Rachel’s white dress needs to get in my closet immediately. Also why the fuck is she surprised that Mike would do something sweet like buy his grandmother an apartment? Does she not know Mike at all?! (She really doesn’t.)
  • A baseball case! Yay for Harvey with a bat! Also Louis’ reaction to the bat when he first saw it was classic.
  • I say Donna protests too much about this whole loving Harvey business.
  • Speaking of the case, I figured Harvey would be more upset about someone doping and ruining the pureness of the sport. Ha! Yeah right. Baseball pure? That’s a joke. (Sorry living with a baseball fanatic has rubbed off on me.)
  • Looking at real estate must really turn Rachel on if Mike simply calling her “beautiful” got her all hot and bothered.
  • I feel like I’m missing something but honestly I just keep wondering who would win a bonsai tree pruning contest, Mr. Belding or Hardman?
  • Grammy calling Harvey a hardass to his face and then demanding to meet spaz Harold secured her spot as the best ever.
  • I’m betting the vote next week will be deadlocked even. Or that Hardman wins. Or Jessica pulls out a last second victory thanks to Louis. Really, I have no idea what to expect week except tears for Grammy passing.
  • Writers even though I’m unhappy with you right now, I promise not send you flaming dogshit. Just give me time and I’ll learn to love you wholeheartedly again. RIP Edith Ross aka Grammy aka my spirit animal.

Ok I’m done. I know I missed talking about a lot of stuff but shit guys pain meds make thoughts really hard to string together. Also, they make you focus on bonsai pruning apparently. Anyway, what did y’all think? Did you like the episode? Were you SUPER PISSED that Grammy went to Candyland because that’s the dream, right? What do you think will happen next week? Give me a bonus of my own and talk to me!

    RIP Grammy

Donna has more than friendly feelings for Harvey and vice versa but they prefer to be friends and workmates. The “other time” is probably close to the time Harvey’s dad died, Donna comforted Harvey and they made out. The parallels between Harvey/Donna and Mike/Rachel strongly suggest a similar outcome for Mike and Rachel.

Donna being fired and re-hired that quickly doesn’t make sense unless something else is going on.

Mike and Rachel are too chummy this quickly after their aborted relationship. Mike tricking Rachel was awesome.

    The season of Louis continues.

    The case dragged the episode.

Hardman vs Pearson was epic.I like that Hardman doesn’t need to stand or raise his voice to face Jessica

Yeah, except Rachel doesn’t work for Mike and directly answer to him and now that she’s going to be a lawyer, they will be on more even ground, as it were. Personally, I think they should string out the Harvey/Donna thing until the very last season because I like them much more when they are working together than anything else. Whereas Mike and Rachel, I don’t really care as much for their working or personal relationship so they can hook up now, next episode (as in the previews) or never. Though I have to say they were really cute when they were looking at that apartment. I think it was the fact that they seemed like such a natural couple picking out their first home together that got Rachel all titter.

I really like Hardman’s addition to the show and I hope he either becomes managing partner (sorry Jessica!) or he and Jessica become co-managers (again, sorry Jessica). I like that I can never figure out if Hardman truly thinks he’s doing the right thing (he has some good points, Jessica doesn’t really have any control over Harvey, not like 2007 Jessica did) or he’s playing some long-term game. Or both. So yeah *takes t-shirt from Louis* Team Hardman!!

THAT. APARTMENT. I totally understand Rachel getting turned on by it. New York real estate is a tricky business and when find a place that good, it’s a turn on in and of itself. Mike doesn’t hurt either.

Also. I think maybe I’m the *only* person who feels this why, but I still like Mike and Jenny together. I do like Rachel, but I just don’t feel the chemistry between those two the way I do between him and Jenny. And maybe that’s because Jenny knows exactly who he is and Rachel doesn’t. I don’t know.

I kind of like the idea of a managing partner shake-up. I mean, I desperately dislike the actor who plays Hardman (I’m too lazy to look up his name right now) because of Damages and there’s just something so sinister and calculating about him. I don’t know. I think it’d be a strong move for the show for him to become managing partner. Or for there to be a write-in vote for a different person altogether. Is that a thing they can do?

ANYWAY, what do I know? Just give me hot guys in suits.

Also, you should know that my sister called Gabriel Macht “a hotter Jason Segel.” I find this both confusing and totally spot-on in ways I don’t quite understand yet.

ALSO. Can we PUH-LEASE get Fairly Legal/Suits cross-over episode. I MEAN, COME ON PEOPLE. Harvey and Mike *need* Sarah Shahi in their lives.

    That apartment is dreamy.

Somewhere there is a gif of that wonky butt crack cutting skirt that Jessica was wearing right? Hideous.

Donna is the best ever. I will Miss Grams because she was better than Donna.

This show is JUST SO GOOD!

  • Burnsy

I think the Hardman seeing Monica thing is ultimately be the thing that gets Louis on the right side of this fight. Question is: Will it be soon enough to alter the vote?

  • Sarah

Okay, I have much more to say, so I will try to come back later, but 1) Ouch! Hope you are okay! 2) there was this moment when Harvey gives Donna this wink, and dang, that was hot.

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

    YES.

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

First off, I think your sister and I would get along PERFECTLY.

Secondly, I too kind of want a managing partner shake up just because it’d be good storytelling and would keep the show from becoming stagnant in this aspect.

Thirdly, Jenny > Rachel. HANDS. DOWN. But honestly, Lola> Jenny > Rachel. COME BACK LOLA!

Lastly, I should have conferred to you about NYC real estate. I imagine now a lot of children were conceived after scoring a hot real estate deal.

I agree completely on the Donna/Harvey front. I’ve also said from the beginning that I’ve enjoyed the Hardman addition because of how that character really brings out the relationship dynamics in the firm. I believe his motives are both good and calculating. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets control of the firm and then tries to merge it with another firm. Perhaps Tanner’s firm, yes?

Actually, I’d die from happiness if that happened.

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

    Season of Louis FTW!

The Donna/Harvey and Mike/Rachel parallels I feel give away too much about both pairings in my opinion. I’d prefer not to know what will happen with one based on watching the other.

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

    Grammy WAS THE BEST.

I too hated that stupid butt crack skirt.

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

    Oooh, good observation!

  • http://twitter.com/sjopierce SJP

I wish Harvey winked at me like that.

  • http://twitter.com/hockeybychoice hockeybychoice

Still not over Grammy. Dammit, show! You’re right Stephanie, we needed more Grammy and Harvey interaction. It was so damn quick! I needed Grammy in Harvey’s office, listening to records, sharing stories.

Harvey’s wink at Donna?? Me, dead on the floor. I NEED to know about that other time.

The cases of the week are just getting in the way at the point, right? Can we abandon those? They aren’t nearly as interesting as what’s going on at the firm. Harvey with the bat was totally hot though.

I’m getting very nervous that the summer finale will make me hate Louis. I love Louis, and he’s awesome, but what if this vote and the fallout makes him nonredeemable to me? I’ll be so sad.

So.. can Grammy’s apartment now be Mike’s new apartment? That has to be the plan. Not that his tiny shitty disgusting place doesn’t have it’s charms… But imagine the possibilities.

If Rachel is going to be a lawyer, will she actually stay with Pearson Hardman (yes), and who will she answer to? Will she end up with Daniel after all this (could be totally interesting) or Harvey or Louis? Rachel and Mike being put on opposite “sides” of the firm could birth some delicious plot bunnies.

ooh Rachel and Louis against Mike and Harvey. That could be really fun!
