Awkward. “Did someone just pee?” “That … would be me.”

You guys.  The delivery of that line was nothing but pure perfection.  I laughed and laughed.  Well played, Jenna’s DILF.

Alright, let’s talk about this most gif-able episode of Awkward.  (For real, I am DYING for HBC‘s gif post already.)  Not only was this episode heavy on Matty (and hence, eye candy), but he was stripping like he was motherfuckin’ Magic Mike, and speaking of, TAMARA’S DANCE, OMG.  There are already gifs of that and they are as glorious as you’d imagine.  But let’s go ahead and have a look at the one we’re ALL dying for, shall we?

I keep gettin’ older, and they just stay the saaaaame age.

Um, amazing.  That shit looks straight up like the end of an 80′s movie and I LOVE IT.

This episode was much better for me than last week’s.  The love triangle stuff was entertaining and funny, but also gave us some set up for the future of that storyline, and I’m excited about it.  Awww, Matty.  Master Saboteur.  I mean, there was never any doubt that that’s what he was doing, right?  But it was still fun watching him do it.  And you know, we haven’t seen much of it from him so far this year, but Matty is FUNNY.  I loved every part of the peeing in the hot tub conversation.  God, Billy would lose his mind.  He hates hot tubs and he hates when people pee in the OCEAN, much less pools and especially hot tubs.  But anyway, how can Jake be so clueless?  And did Matty ALWAYS strip that much in front of him?  Doesn’t he think that’s weird?

Other than that, I mean … not much new to say about that.  Like I said, I loved the dad in the hot tub scene, but I really don’t see how a hot tub is like a sex swing, especially when it’s right outside your sliding glass door where you can see everything, AND you bought your daughter a giant box of condoms for Christmas.  So … ?

This was also a really good episode for a lot of minor characters.  Tamara was really cracking me up, and I sort of feel like she and Val might need to interact more.  I love her and all of her batshit insane Ricky Schwartz stuff, and the dance team was just TOO MUCH, in the most perfect way ever.  Plus, I loved the BBF/BFF conversation, which was SO teenage girl (and also so a conversation I could see having with That Bitch Amy, like now, as 31 year olds).

Val was a bit of a mixed bag, but with more to like than not.  I LOVED her grand entrance with “HOLLA!!!!!”  And I did like the anti-bullying storyline, mostly because it gave Sadie a ton of occasion to be a bitch, which is my favorite thing ever.  You guys, when Tamara was going apeshit crazy at Ricky in the gym, the look on Sadie’s face was THE EXACT LOOK on MY face any time shit goes down–pure, unadulterated, bitchy bystander GLEE.  (Sidenote: I am pissed at Ryan Murphy for ruining that word for me.)  Anyway, Val.  I like her in the new role (and LOVE the new hairdo), but I really could’ve done without her weird thing with the new guidance counselor.

You know, I feel like on any show, the “wacky” character is the hardest one to balance.  You want them for some comic relief, and a lot of times they’re actually part of the plot.  They start off hilarious, so you think people want more, but in reality, they’re hilarious in part because of how rare and random their moments are.  I feel like any time the writers are trying to write in Val this season, they need to take what they think is a good amount of Val, and cut it in half.  And that would be perfect.  Because as we discussed last week, we only have like 22 precious minutes.

That basically leaves Jenna’s parents, which … gah.  Ripped my heart out.  I’m glad that Jenna and her mom seem to be working it out, but I’m just sad for all of them!  And I want DILF to come back!  Clearly, Jenna’s mom needs him there to balance out her parenting.  So I’m just holding out hope that since Jenna doesn’t have a car yet and Tamara says the first separation never sticks that he’ll be back soon.

Next week looks AMAZING, you guys.  CHURCH CAMP.  I feel like I’ve won the recapping lottery, holy shit.  Haha, holy shit.  That’s a pun!

But back to this episode.  What did you guys think?  Favorite lines or moments?  Anything I forgot?  Gif requests you want me to pass along to HBC?  Any other thoughts or things you want to discuss?  Lay it on me in the comments!

I also about died laughing when Kevin said he’d peed in the hot tub. And that it was a favor for Jenna. Good, good times. As a 32 year old, I also love Kev and I’m glad to see that his character and Lacey’s character (for the most part) aren’t too stereotypical–they have their own issues too (more Suburgatory than Freaks and Geeks, I guess?). I also liked that the ep focused on the Lacey/Jenna deal.
I’m totally Team Matty still, but what I don’t understand is the way Sadie sort of reads Matty pretty well (that part I get), but then doesn’t really do anything to Jenna about it. Maybe she is saving up. Maybe she just wants Matty to herself and figures Jake will keep Jenna, etc.
I both loved and don’t love Matty’s sabotage. On one hand, I like that he’s still pursuing Jenna and possibly making a move. But I love Jake/Matty! I want them to be friends forever.
SB, I totally agree about the 1/2time Val action–I think that is a really good plan. If this was a Disney Channel show, then the crazy adult makes sense, but it really should be more of a gag and not ever a plot point. (Like say…Suburgatory and Freaks and Geeks’ guidance counselors) :)

How did I miss this post? Bad me!

I have watched this episode 5 times. Yep. Can’t help it. Love it.

The look Matty gives Sadie at the end? Perfection.

I watched a marathon this weekend and how is it that Jake is like the ONLY person that doesn’t know that Matty and Jenna were a thing? He’s a moron. A sweet moron. But still pretty dim.

LOVED the little smile Matty did at the end there. I die. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s just going to WEAR HER DOWN. Poor Jake.

Val… is starting to grate on me. I really love her, and she was funny this episode — except when SHE was bullying the other counselor. I’m kind of surprised no one called her out on that shit and slapped a B on her. That thing with the other counselor was just weird.

Loved how by the 5k, Sadie had, like, ALL the Bs on her. Amazing. I love her so much. And by “love her”, I mean “love to hate her. But also love her.”

    Tamara dancing. GOD.

I’m really upset that Jenna’s DILF went to stay with grandma for a while. Like, yeah, what Lacey did was despicable, but JENNA is the victim here, NOT Kevin. And yes he should hate Lacey, but how can he leave Jenna there with her? Like… couldn’t he have kicked HER out? I really hope Tamara is right and he’ll be back. For Jenna’s sake, he needs to come back. :(

I totally agree about Jake. How does he NOT know? I mean… I guess he has no reason to suspect. The longer they go without telling him is just going to make it worse when he finds out. Which will probably be by him walking in on them, or something.

Dad fail. But totally a guy thing to do. Lacey screws up and he bails. He’ll be back.

I think it shows that he is NOT a great friend. How can he have no idea what has been going on with his best friend? I mean, details aside, how can he not know WHO it is/was? Because he didn’t care enough to ask, that’s why.

Maybe, but Matty was also being SUPER secretive about it. Like Jake KNEW something was up, but Matty hid that it was Jenna. Maybe it’s just bro code that you don’t pry? I don’t know.

I missed this post? What? And I’m even mentioned in it a couple times. I must be off my game.

SO many gifs from the episode. Stay tuned – Tuesday morning!

Anyway. Wows. Matty! The smile at the end, my goodness. Super fun sabotage. Ugh adore him. He might need a haircut though.

Also love? Daddy Hamilton. And the hot tub and him being shirtless. HELLO. Speaking of, has everyone seen the TGIFridays commercial with him? He’s so pretty. I ship him with me. Go away Lacey!

Tamara and the spandex outfit was HILAR.

I didn’t really get the annoying vibe from Val until this episode. Too much stuff with the new guidance counselor.

Jake is going to feel really stupid when he finds out it’s Matty. How he doesn’t see it, I’m not sure. Maybe he just doesn’t want to see it so he’s blocking out the signs.

It really is kinda ridiculous that Jake doesn’t know by now, and it’s just making him look like an idiot. What Jenna and Matty are doing really isn’t fair to him. And I’m Team Matty because Jenna is Team Matty. No matter how much she likes Jake (which I believe she does), and tries to make it work with him, the fact is Matty is still the only thing she can think about.

I actually preferred last week’s episode over this week’s. This one just didn’t make me laugh, whereas the whole Asian mafia storyline cracked me up last time. I think part of the problem was that the commercials gave away all of the Third-Wheel-Matty bits, so there weren’t any surprises left for the actual episode. And I agree that Val has become the show’s weakest link.

Like the rest of you, I loved Matty’s smile, and I’m really glad Matty and Sadie are still interacting. Jenna has her friends and Jake is clueless, so it’s nice for Matty to have someone else to talk to who sorta knows what’s going on. They just have a great dynamic, and I love that Sadie can see right through him.
