Hart of Dixie. The puppies really bring out your eyes.

Whew.  Big improvement over last week, which is good, because I was JUST ABOUT to call it quits.  Plus, it looks like this week’s story is actually going to continue into next week’s, which I think is good.  Also, it didn’t hurt that there was TONS of Wade.  So let’s talk!

This week’s town event was some stupid race … I don’t know.  It seemed to mostly involve building shit, which I’m actually really good at, so I guess it’s good for those chumps that I wasn’t eligible for entry (not being a Bluebell resident and whatnot).  Also, I would cut a bitch (and climb a building) for five grand right now.

Wade was also in it for the money, which he wanted to put toward opening his own bar.  Zoe was actually cool about it and supportive, but in all other ways, she was, again, The Worst*.  She’s just so insensitive to everyone around her, and I kind of forgive her of not understanding Wade, because a lot of that is his fault, but when she’s such a shit to Lavon, I cannot handle it.  Plus, she made EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN THING about her this week, which, AGAIN.  Shut up, Zoe.

*Still not as bad as Mr. Shue.

I don’t know.  While I’m not a fan of the whole George and Zoe thing, I’m even more not a fan of making Zoe horrible.  I mean, is it so much to ask for the CW to have a show where the main female character doesn’t suck so much ass?  UGH.  And while we’re on the topic of George … I still just don’t get it.  I understand Lemon–they’ve been together a long time, they were engaged, she feels guilty … I do get it.  Even though I think she’s a dumbass for not picking Lavon in the first place.

And again, Lavon wins for most awesome for having a group therapy session where everyone sits around writing in notebooks about why they shouldn’t be with who they’re pining after.  (Also, Lemon hates snuggling.  Hee!)

I actually really liked Tansy in this episode.  It freaks me out a little that she and Wade look like brother and sister, but at this point, she’d be so much better for him than Zoe, right?  Although his scenes with Zoe were both hot and breaking my heart.  Not usually at the same time.  But he was just so … hopeful, and into it.  Like he thought he was getting his second chance, and he wasn’t gonna fuck it up this time.  Man, it killed me.  Don’t hate me, but I kind of feel like Wilson Bethel is both too good for this show, but also  completely perfect for the spirit of this show.  Basically, I think the show needs him more than he needs the show.

George and Lemon … let’s not talk about it.  Well, you can if you want, in the comments, but I’m not gonna.

The minor characters in this episode were pretty goddamn delightful–Rose and clueless Frederick were cute, but Tom and Wanda are probably my favorite couple on this show now.  So cute and weird and awkward.

As for how the whole episode ended up, I liked it.  I don’t actually think that it’s Zoe’s fault that Rose’s appendix burst and I don’t think that being on a date had anything to do with it (unless making out makes your appendix rupture–is that a thing?).  But I like that there’s starting to be some consequences for Zoe being an inconsiderate bitch–she hurts people’s feelings, she can’t hang out with her friends, and things are just going generally shitty.  That’s realistic to me.  And George kind of … softening on his stance toward Lemon–even though I don’t think they’ll end up together or at least go through with the wedding right now, that felt realistic too.  So I’m actually kind of excited for next week.  I KNOW, RIGHT?  Yay!

What did you guys think of this episode?  Better than last week for you, or about the same?  Favorite moments?  Quotes?  Things I missed?  Thoughts on the general goings on?  Let’s talk about it in the comments!

I couldn’t deal with this episode. It was better than last week, but barely. Zoe’s selfishness just completely turned me off from her character. Not only did she hurt Wade and then kind of not even care, she hurt Lavon too. Which is something you just. don’t. do.

In other news, I agree about Wilson Bethel.

Funny that you mention “The Worst” as I was thinking this morning that the Glee writers seem to have taken over character development on HoD.

Also, does George have butter flavored nipples?  He’s cute and all but bitch, please.

I agree they are making Zoe into the most unlikable character.  Maybe small towns dumb everyone down?  I hate to think that’s it.  Because everyone is super stupid.  I thought for awhile that Rose was smart but hanging out with her appendix rupturing so she can make out with a boy?  That shit is some PAIN and come on!  Fred is no (for me right now) Jared Leto or anything.

Lavon was the best this episode.  I loved it when he straight up told Zoe she had to leave because she couldn’t be there with Wade and him and Tansey. Go Lavon (and anyone see Lavon and Tansey?  Yes/No?)

Best line?  Wade listing Zoe’s bad qualities “Stupid Shorts”!

Ugh, this show. What the hell is even going on? I admit, as
much as I wanted to love it at the beginning, I was never really sold. I mainly
just kept watching this long for Wade. But now it’s in a straight-up fucking
tailspin. Are they purposely making the lead character into a whiny, unlikable,
immature little bitch? And do they really expect us to buy that anyone (let alone
two women) would want to be with the most boring, spineless guy in that town?
Part of me wants to hope this is all part of a giant plan for major character
development and plot movement as the season ends, but the realist in me knows better.

Lavon and I have the same cookware. It’s Paula Deen if anyone wants to join the awesome cookware club.

Late to the hate on Zoe, love on Wade party, so I don’t have too much to add. I’m annoyed with the damage they’ve done to Zoe’s character. In the 6th episode, she’s about to sleep with Wade, but decides “she’s not the kind of girl.” (bullshit) and then recommits herself to being a good doctor (which was the whole fucking point of this show), makes some friends, and finally starts to fit in with the people. Now she’s wearing boring George blinders and doesn’t care who she hurts trying to win him?

Ugh it hurts. And I don’t get where the Zoe/George shippers are coming from when they insist that she loves him and she has loved him from the first episode. We clearly haven’t been watching the same show. Zoe loves the idea of him, the fantasy. He’s boring and predictable and she has daddy issues.
And before someone jumps on me for being a Wade supporter – I’m not saying she loves Wade and should love Wade, I’m saying she isn’t in the position to love anyone right now.

I can totally see Tansy and Lavon. They’re pretty cute, but here’s the difference between Lavon and Zoe, Lavon wouldn’t do that to Wade. He’s a real friend.

George saving Lemon off the roof of the church was stupid. Of course he’s going to save her, he’d save anyone that was up there. The cut backs to Zoe making a face was the last straw for me though. Bitch, please.

I’m still completely bummed that the scene from the promotional stills where Wade and Zoe have switched clothes never happened. Wilson Bethel in those tiny jeans? I need to see this.

And yes, Wilson Bethel is perfect for this show, but so so much better than this. That’s why I need him in his own show where he could shine. I can’t really remember the last time I was so attached to a character. I want what’s best for him and I want him happy with his own bar.

And didn’t drunk Zoe full on make out with Wade in the first episode in his car? So it’s not like he hasn’t felt her up and stuff, right?

  • http://twitter.com/hockeybychoice hockeybychoice

Yep, that was totally hot. This is the chick who used to power up all her shit just so the fuze would blow and she could flirt!yell at Wade, and let Wade stay the night on her couch when she was afraid AND fairly recently, was jealous of that annoying floozy that used her fancy shampoo.

What happened to her? The writers riled us up for the first half of the season, just to let us cool off for the rest of the episodes. I know there are spoilers out there for the finale that are apparently good for Zoe/Wade fans, but I’m waiting that out. Plus, there’s a good chance it doesn’t get picked up and I’ll be pissed they waited the whole fucking season for Zoe to grow a brain.

Agreed with everyone else re: Zoe’s personality transplant. How can any rational person (nevermind a 30 year old NYC surgeon) honestly think that George would bounce back from a 15 year relationship and immediately declare his undying love for her? The whole premise is that she is a cold, calculating person who is insensitive and too logical. I get the Bluebell has softened her up but she’s acting like a delusional psycho.

I think this strange about face is just crappy writing. Other than the night they went to see Woody Allen movies – have they spent a lot of time alone? Do they know each other that well? They have had a bunch of flirty encounters and made out – is that what passes for tru wuv now???

I found myself really liking Tanzy this episode. I hope she becomes a regular part of the gang. It was refreshing to have a female character who isn’t a drama queen/lunatic and reacts in a reasonable and genuine way. I found her and Lavon absolutely charming together and kind of hope they get together. He deserves some low maintenance happiness.

Can we start a petition to kill off George and make Wade’s brother a series regular?

I’m gonna be contrarian here. I still really like Zoe. I think I probably over-identify with her (I do that. It’s a problem.), and while she is being AWFUL, I totally get it. And while I really want to see her and Wade get together, I understand why she wants to pursue George, despite the fact that it’s immature and irrational and an all-around bad decision. And I thought she actually took the news of him deciding to give the relationship with Lemon another shot fairly gracefully while he was talking to her. Lord knows I would have immediately started sobbing. Because I’m that person.

Anyway. I really effing love Rose. I would absolutely watch a spin-off show about her.
